What I did on summer vacation.....

Hi family and friends!
Before we get too far into fall, I thought I better bring you up to date on what I did since my last post.

Before I started summer vacation, I....

....graduated from kindergarten.
I loved Ms. Coolidge as my kindergarten teacher.

Right after my graduation we....

...went to Santas Village with Lea and Annie Weiying!
Enjoying flying in the hot air balloon ride.

We were all angels when we met Cinderella!

...and then we went on to Pennsylvania!
We got to stay with cousin Snookie and Steve (Mark) and went to the great Knoebel Amusement Park three times!  Thanks Snook and Mark for a super fun time, yummy mum-mum, and letting me swim in your pool.

Cousin Mark likes to play lots of Gold Fish!

One of my favorite rides: high flying swings

I was a fair maiden in the Knoebels Show.

When we got back from vacation, I had a fun summer of relaxing, playing, reading and different summer camps. Some of my favorite memories were...

No matter where I am, I love to read!

I rode the waves at Granby Zoo

Daddy helped me make these silly pictures at the Biosphere in Montreal

At art camp, I made the skirt myself.

Who gets tired of blocks?

I get my feetie well rested for the playgrounds!

One of my favorite weeks at summer camp: Pirate Theme!

Can't get enough of swimming!

Summer is over, and I've started first grade!
So far, so good, and I'm finally getting used to homework......

Here I am with my new backpack and fast running shoes

Well, that's about it for now.  My life is pretty busy with 1st grade, swim lessons, dance lessons, homework, playdates, and my latest passion, Uno cards.  But I will try to post about the fall, halloween and my upcoming birthday (7!!).

Thanks for reading and love you all.

Love,
Hui-Hui

5 years ago today....memories of our Gotcha Day

Five years have gone by since the day we became a family.  "Gotcha Day" will always be special to us and talking about it helps us to keep those special memories fresh.  Here are some things that we remember......

Mommy remembers....

...the light touch of your hand when you explored my face.

...the sweet yellow gypsy skirt and chinese jewelry piece your nanny or foster mom had you wear.  They had you all dolled up for your special day.

..an amazing fullness in my heart when you looked at me.

Daddy remembers....
...you were almost always smiling and happy.

....though you took the day in stride, it must have been exhausting for you.....you fell asleep right at the lunch table!

...how super teeny your feet were.

Hui-Hui remembers.....
I was not afraid.  I knew you were my mommy and daddy coming to get me......

We love you, Hui-Hui!  Happy family day.

Making up for lost time....

Well, I've done it again. So much time has gone by since I last posted.  I've been busy! Since my last post, I have turned 6, hit my 100 days in kindergarten, hosted my family here for a fall vacation, been on 2 vacations (one to CA, one to Mexico) and learned to read and write.  I am keeping a journal in school and thought I'd catch you up by sharing a few pages.

I love kindergarten! Our teachers, Ms. Coolidge and Mrs. Thornton, are kind and teach us lots of interesting things. I have PE, Art and Music each week. And sometimes I get to stay for "Big Kids Program" after school. One of the first days I got to stay for Big Kids, I was running really fast and I had a big fall. Ouch, I really hurt my knee. I wrote about this in my journal, and told my friends all about the emergency room at the hospital. No fun, but interesting. I asked the doctor a lot of questions.

In the fall, we had a field trip going apple picking. Then we pressed the apples to make cider and apple pies, and we sold them to raise money for our school. We had A great time and the cider was super yummy!  And being out in the cool fall air is one of my favorite things.

One of the great things about kindergarten is that I am making some new friends. I love my new friend Marin. She is sweet and we have so much fun together. Marin came over for a play date and we made an art gallery in our downstairs. FUN!

At the end of October, my family came to visit!  Nothing could make me happier.  They stayed for Halloween and helped me celebrate my birthday. We had a costume party and everyone got dressed up.  It was an extra treat that Lea and her family came from Maine and they got to meet my family.  We all had a great time.    I hated to see them go but I knew it wouldn't be long before I would see them again.....

Just a few weeks later, it was our turn to travel.  We made our annual trip back to California to enjoy the holidays with the family.  It was worth the 13 hours of travel of driving, then 3 planes, then driving some more, to be able to see everybody.

Even though I enjoyed vacation, I didn't mind going back to school because I love kindergarten.  When mommy asks me what I love about it, I tell her, "everything!".  Mommy started a new job in January.  She's super-uper happy!  Me too.

In February, we went on a trip to Mexico on a big cruise boat.  Mexico was so warm and I could wear shorts and dresses all the time.  We also got to go to Legoland and Disneyland. I loved all of it!

I like so many of the kids in my kindergarten class.  Johnny is a special friend.  He is kind and a lot of fun.

My mommy has to travel more in her new job and I miss her when she is gone.  But me and daddy do good and my daddy takes good care of me.  I wrote this in my journal because I was thinking of my mommy.......

Well, it's April already and I can't believe that I have only 2 1/2 months left until the end of kindergarten!   I hope to post a little bit more often.  Signing off for now, thanks for reading. And here's a few real photos so you can see how big I'm getting!

Pomp and Circumstance: I march boldly into Kindergarten!

Last week I finished up at my pre-school to get ready for kindergarten. I will miss all of my friends that I've made over the past 3 years. We celebrated our "graduation" with mommy's homemade chocolate cupcakes for both lunch and break (the teachers let us run around outside A LOT that day!!). Here's a picture of my last pre-school morning and me with my friends.

My teacher visits me at home
My new teacher is very nice and she even came to visit me at home one night last week.  I showed her my room and my art center, and she was quite impressed with my self portraits.  Seeing her last week made it really easy to go to kindergarten this morning.

Kindergarten!
I was ready to go first thing this morning, having picked out my outfit the night before.  Me and mommy had my new froggie lunchbox and backpack all ready to go.  When I got to the schoolyard, I ran to my teacher and she introduced me to some of the other new kids.  I wasn't scared at all.  Mommy didn't do a lot of boo-hooing that I was afraid she would do, but I think I saw a little wetness in her eyes!  Don't cry mommy, I am fine.

Here are some pictures from my first day.

Me and my teacher

My new cubbie.

My first day of kindergarten!

I think I'm really going to like kindergarten and guess what? I get to take the bus tomorrow!   Mommy says she won't follow behind the bus too close.......
Thanks for visiting my blog.  Stay tuned for a report on my bus experience and gym class!

I love summer!

I can't believe it's half way through summer. We've had a great time so far from graduation parties, to amusement park vacation week to water parks to birthday parties. Here's some of my favorite pics to show you what I've been up to.

I "graduated" in my preschool and my pals, Flo and Vicky, graduated from Dartmouth College!

I graduated out of the "Yellow Room" preschool into the "Green Room" with other kids ready to go to Kindergarten this fall and also a few kids who are going to first grade. When mommy asked me what is different about the Green Room, I tell her, "it's the same playing, art work, playground, bicycles..the kids just don't bite, scratch or hit!" (mommy: "well, THAT'S good!")

Both Emma and I will greatly miss our DAO (Dartmouth Asian Organization) big pals, Flo and Vicky. We had a graduation party for them and gave them pictures and gifts to remember us by. We hope they stay in touch!

Flo opens her presents and the autograph doggie I gave her!

We go on an "Amusement Park Tour Week" in Pennsylvania and get to see cousins Snookie and Mark

So mommy and daddy wouldn't feel guilty about only doing antiquing on our vacations ("that family looks like they're having fun...."), we went on a week vacation to PA and did three amusement parks. We got to visit with cousins Snookie and Mark and they showed us around some very fun places. Then we went go to go to three amusement parks in one week: Knoebels, Sesame Place and Lake Compounce. Wooooohoooo, I love all of the roller coasters, log rides and water parks! Hands up, everybody! Here's some favorite pics of that week. Thanks, cousins Snookie & Mark!

Enjoying time with cousin Mark, who I renamed "Steve".....

Steve sets up a pool in their big backyard for me to play in! Thanks, Steve!

Knoebels - I love the old fashioned "Whip" ride...

I'm looking so lovingly at my cousin Snookie, right?

.......Right!

Lost count...how many times did we go down the Log Ride?

Great shows, parades and rides at Sesame Place!

Very cool ropes climby-thingie!

Me and daddy on the awesome "Vapor" roller coaster.

That's me in the middle of the big waterfall!

You gotta have at least A LITTLE chocolate when you're so close to Hershey, PA!

My friend, Emma, turned 6!

A favorite meal at a nice Thai restaurant where I am treated like a little princess ("here comes Hui-Hui"!)

Enjoying the decorated pigs this summer in Hanover downtown.

Mommy says "You're growing like a weed this summer"......do you think that's true?

M&D have more fun stuff planned for the rest of the summer before I start school. Swimming lessons, a weekend with Lea & Annie Weiying, and lots of picnics & bbqs. Watch for more pics, hopefully coming soon. Can you believe I'm going to Kindergarten???

Love you all and thanks for following my blog.

xoxo,
